The Sound Lab was founded by two of the Management Committee Pauline McCulley and Kevin Carroll following the tragic death of one of our young friends from Tollcross, Kevin Dickson.

Our memory of Kev’s laughter, love of jokes, football and music will live with us forever and in his memory we have worked towards giving the young people in the area somewhere to go and make music, after discussing ideas with Kev's own friends.

The young people of Tollcross initially got involved with a barbeque, which we held outside Tollcross Community Centre in the car park! No advertising! Just brilliant food (funded by Scottish Community Diet Project) and our young people got the chance of DJ Decks, drums and guitars. The opportunity of music and a ‘Scooby Snax’ health eating taster programme got our local youths involved with the project!

In 2004 we also carried out a Graffiti Art project and the young people involved designed our logo and the work of art still hangs up in the community centre!

The members of The Sound Lab were involved in a city wide initiative tapping into the creative energy of young people and giving them the opportunity to access a broad range of creative media, underpinned by the theme of Alcohol and drugs use and associated behaviours. Delivery of the project (Satellite) was at the East End Showcase and the Arches.

The young people at Sound Lab formed a band, some had ony just learned their instruments from beginners level and they delivered amazing performances!!

Again in 2007 the young colts (new members) formed another band and preformed live at the East End Drugs Forum and at the Community Engagement Evenings. Once again our young people delivered brilliant performances.

We hope that the positive influence that Kevin had on those around him will continue through The Sound Lab, and as Chairperson I would like to thank all of the youth of Tollcross and beyond for their participation with the project and for their unbelievable accomplishments. I am so proud of each and every one of them!
