- Favourite venue to perform in: Fav venue to play is Sub Club and La Cheetah
- Best place to see a gig: Glad Cafe is a fav of mine in Glasgow it's intimate, the programming is really impressive lots of underground acts and bands
- What’s something about your creative process that might surprise people? I think sleeping or resting is as important as time spent crafting so I sleep a lot and generally enjoy time alone contrary to people who say I'm a workaholic
- What about living in this city inspires you? Lots of artists come to this city and seeing them at work is always a good motivation.
- At this stage in your career, what does success in the music industry look like to you? I have hit success at this stage, anything from now on is a bonus. All i wanted was to play music and make music, the fact i am a full time creative is a success coming from my neck of the hood. My granma often says "kancane kancane" which is a proverb that means slowly slowly at your own pace. This proverb really helps me when I get in a mindset of envy.
An Interview with Kieron
Kieron Gilfillan, a talented young guitarist we're working with, recently had the opportunity to visit a recording studio with his tutor, Nicky Murray. Kieron spent time recording a mix of original compositions and classical pieces. In this interview, he shares his thoughts on the experience—from what it was like to step into the studio to how it felt to bring his creative ideas to life.
Kieron how would you describe the day for someone who doesn't know what happened?
We were recording in Carlton Studios, recording a few of my compositions (A Day In November, Tarrega, and A Day in December), and a couple of well known classical pieces: Cathedral and Asturias. It was good to have the photographer as well, the pictures turned out good. How did you find the whole process of being in the studio? It was good. I didn't realise how good I could sound until we were listening back in the control room. It was helpful to have Nicky there, he kept me in tune. It was good to have the photographer there as well, the pictures turned out good. How does it feel to hear yourself recorded professionally? It was surprising listening back to the recordings afterwards. The quality and the clarity was impressive, particularly in the more intense sections of Asturias. What’s next for you Kieron? Do you have any goals or targets in terms of your career or development? Probably just like to learn more stuff on the guitar. Classical mainly. I'd like to learn more theory as well. I'd like to release music someday. |
Kieron’s time in the studio is just the beginning, and we’re excited to see where his music will take him next. To hear the results of his hard work and creativity, check out his original song A Day in December on SoundCloud. Stay tuned for more from this talented young artist!
