St. Mary’s Kenmure
We have been continuing to work closely with the young people in secure care at St. Mary’s Kenmure! Take a look at what our SMK coordinator Lisa has to say about our work there:
“Sound Lab has been working in St Mary's for over 18 months now and runs sessions for young people in their school day and as an extra activity. We have young people learning guitar, bass, sound production, lyric writing and keys. We met with Education Scotland this month, which has been a great chance to reflect on the positive work that’s being done there. The music education that the young people are getting there is developing their soft skills which they can hopefully apply to all parts of their lives. We’ve found that the young people have grown in confidence, resilience, leadership skills, have become more independent and their ability to concentrate is consistently increasing. We’re really enjoying going in and getting to make music and chat with these young people! It's some of the most impactful work we do and I’m looking forward to hopefully growing the work we do at SMK or in secure facilities more generally. Please give me a shout at [email protected] if you’d like to chat about any of this work”.

Good Luck Naomi!
At the end of October we said farewell to our incredible Development Coordinator and pal Naomi as she jets off for an incredible adventure in New Zealand!
At the end of October we said farewell to our incredible Development Coordinator and pal Naomi as she jets off for an incredible adventure in New Zealand!
Naomi started with us as a volunteer over seven years ago and has been at the heart of Sound Lab’s development ever since, joining the board and then becoming our first full time member of staff. Naomi has been such a huge part of Sound Lab, and her hard work, care and dedication to the young people has been instrumental to our continued growth and success.
We will miss you Naomi, but are so excited for you, and we can’t wait to hear all about your travels!❤️

Radio Shows
This month on Radio Buena Vida we have the good people at Anam on the show to discuss emerging creatives from Scotland! Run by young artists, Anam creative is a Community Interest Company that supports emerging creatives with paid opportunities! They’ll be discussing their recent successful applicants and their music. Currently, they have facilitated 4 long collaborative music and arts projects and commissioned 26 emerging creatives, hosting nine sold out live music and arsts events to showcase some of the most innovative young artists in Scotland right now! We can’t wait to hear all about it. Make sure you give them a listen on Radio Buena Vida on the 18th September from 3-4pm.
Last month on Radio Buena Vida we had our tutor and good friend Deni Smith on talking about her role as Arts in the City Coordinator for Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership. Talking about the exciting and upcoming work with the aforementioned Arts in the City’s Continuing Care Open Day.
On Clyde Built Radio, we also had a guest feature from the incredible ACE V!S!ON, a participant of Counterflow’s Music Space project, who came on the show to chat and show off some tunes they have been working on. ACE V!S!ON is a very talented spoken word poet, actor, musician and rapper and playwright, who creates and releases independent music as well as collaborative work with local bands and collectives around Glasgow! We loved our co-running the Music Space project last year so were delighted to have ACE on the show and hear what exciting things are ahead for Music Space in 2023. If you missed the shows, or want to give them a listen, you can check them out here!
