The countdown is on for The Sound Lab presents: Music Makes Glasgow. On October 12th we’ll be celebrating 25 years of offering free music education and creative mentoring, and we want you to be a part of the party!
For the past quarter of a century, The Sound Lab has worked determinedly to ensure music is for everyone – not just the privileged few. Working mostly with care experienced young people, asylum seekers and refugees, and children with disabilities/ASN, we’ve been able to help 1,000’s of young people to overcome the systemic barriers that prevent them from exploring their creative potential. Join your host, BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway at Drygate on October 12th as we mark this incredible milestone with a day full of live music, workshops, and a showcase of the incredible talent within our community.

Over at Quarriers Homeless Stop Over, students are making impressive strides in singing, piano, guitar, and drums, with notable progress in both musical skill and confidence. At Drumchapel High School’s ASN unit, students are diving into vocal techniques and guitar chord progressions, with some even beginning to write their own songs. 🎙 Radio Recap 🎙
The Sound Lab community has been making waves on the airwaves! Recently, one of our talented students, Wajd, hosted her debut show on Clyde Built Radio, where she showed off some of the mixing skills she’s been developing during her time with us.
Reflecting on her journey with The Sound Lab, Wajd shared:
"I’ve always been interested in mixing, but it felt so overwhelming and complicated. Then I mentioned it to my best friend, and they told me about The Sound Lab, so I decided to reach out. The whole process was super easy, and Johnny was amazing to work with—such a great mentor. The rest of the team was also fantastic, and I looked forward to coming in every week to jam with the support of Adam hyping me up! I’m still learning and figuring out my sound, but Johnny taught me that DJing is really about what you want it to be and what message you want to send to your listeners. I’ve had an absolute blast and can’t recommend the experience enough. Huge thanks to the amazing team."
Wajd’s show was a fantastic showcase of her progress, and we couldn’t be more proud of her achievements! Listen back here.
Over on Radio Buena Vida, Programme Coordinator Mairi Fletcher returned with a special guest episode featuring young people from Perth Autism Support (PAS), who we collaborated with over the summer. Working with tutor Steg G, they created a brilliant podcast, taking turns to interview each other on their favourite food, TV shows, pets, and what PAS means to them - listen here! Catch up on these fantastic broadcasts and experience the creativity of The Sound Lab community firsthand!
