CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING

At The Sound Lab, ensuring the safety and  wellbeing of the children and young people we support, and upholding their rights, is of paramount importance. All children have a right to be protected from harm (including: violence, injury, abuse, neglect, maltreatment or exploitation) in line with Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). In Scotland there is a range of relevant legislation, policy and guidance in place to uphold the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. This includes The National Child Protection Guidance in Scotland 2021 - updated 2023,  The Children Act 2004 and The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024.

Across recruitment, training and delivery we have a robust safeguarding culture, designed to ensure that any concerns are acted on immediately, with support from appropriate agencies where necessary. All Sound Lab tutors and volunteers undergo PVG checks via Disclosure Scotland; all tutors also complete dedicated NSPCC training on child protection for tutors. Annual refresher training helps to ensure that tutors are confident in setting professional boundaries and recognising signs of abuse.

The Designated Child Protection Lead at The Sound Lab is Rollo Strickland, who has overall organisational responsibility for managing concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people. In the event that a tutor, volunteer or young person wishes to raise a concern, Rollo can be contacted on 07388 000 935 or 07928 821 496 (out of hours) or via [email protected]. Rollo has completed Designated Child Protection Lead training, delivered by the NSPCC.

The Sound Lab's Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and Procedures are reviewed annually in order to ensure compliance with best practice. To download the most recent copy, click the link below:
